LIVE MUSIC:

Mike Abbott at Pi on Broadway on the Rooftop

Rewind Duo at River Run at Rainbow Springs Club

The musical PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES is live on stage September 24 – October 25 to open the 2020-2021 season at Ocala Civic Theatre. OCT’s 70th season begins along North Carolina’s Highway 57, somewhere between Frog Level and Smyrna, sometime between the late 1960s and the early 1980s. It’s a place that seems timeless and feels like home. The “Pump Boys” – Jim (Scott Nadenik), L.M. (Philip King), Jackson (Jonny Williams), and Eddie (Steven Whipple) operate a gas station next door to the Double Cupp Diner, run by sisters Rhetta (Sarah Beth Ganey) and Prudie (Melissa Nadenik). The girls are proud of their pies and work hard for their well-earned tips, but yearn for a much-needed vacation from slinging butterbeans and corn. The boys keep America rolling, but dream of running off in the Winnebago up on blocks out back… and just maybe taking that good-looking Woolworth’s cashier along for the ride. Upbeat and down-home, this high-octane, country-flavored musical features a rollicking score of songs about dimestore dreams and Dolly Parton, farmer tans and fishing for catfish. So stop on by, pull up a chair, and sit a spell… it’s a fill-up of pure fun, with a good time guaranteed! PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES is directed by Katrina Ploof. Musical director is Philip King. Scenic designer is Will Spratt. Lighting designer is Erin Miner. Costume designer is Eryn Brooks Brewer. Sound designer is Jim Foster. Props designer is Laura Bradford. Stage manager is Kim Wise. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for ages 18 and younger. The Centers, Inc. and The Marion County Children's Alliance are hosting "Recovery in a Bag: A Drive Thru Event" and we are distributing free Narcan, and offering support to anyone who drives up and asks for help. Narcan reverses the effects of an overdose. The free distribution is part of National Recovery Month. National Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with mental and substance use disorders to live healthy and rewarding lives.
We just want to help the individuals and families that are having a tough time right now. Due to the pandemic so many community events are now postponed or cancelled, but we knew we had to do something to let the citizens in our community know they are not alone, there is help, there is hope and recovery is possible. For many battling addiction, COVID-19 has created the perfect storm for relapses. On a local level, we are seeing an increase of overdoses. Marion County had 657 suspected overdose cases in the first six months of 2020, 28 of those cases were fatal overdoses and 318 of the cases were treated with Narcan, an emergency drug overdose treatment.
